Animated components for Codex
Point Codex at the piece's PROMPT.md, read the diff, and the login, checkout or dashboard lands in your Next.js app with its timings intact.
Codex is OpenAI's coding agent. It runs in the terminal as the codex CLI (open source, Apache 2.0), as an extension for VS Code, Cursor and Windsurf, and inside JetBrains IDEs and Xcode. Before it starts work it reads AGENTS.md files, from ~/.codex down to the folder you're in, and joins them into one set of instructions. Every paid download ships a PROMPT.md, so naming that one file gives Codex the whole install plan. Source: Codex docs: custom instructions with AGENTS.md, Codex docs: IDE extension, Codex docs: CLI, Codex on GitHub (Apache 2.0).
Your card becomes the receipt: it splits, unrolls into paper and gets stamped PAID.
A whole SaaS app you drive from ⌘K: rows stretch into pages, coins fly into the total.
How to add one with Codex
- 1Unzip the download into your repo, for example under components/qodesign, and make a Git checkpoint first, as Codex's docs suggest.
- 2Run codex in the project folder, or open the Codex sidebar in your editor, and ask it to follow components/qodesign/PROMPT.md for the page that should get the piece.
- 3Read the diff, approve the npm install it asks for, then run your dev server and compare the motion with the live preview on our site.
- 4Add one line to AGENTS.md, such as "Don't change animation durations or easing in components/qodesign", so later requests leave the motion alone.
A status page from the free Orbit dashboard, with the view in the URL
Free pieces also ship as the qodesign-free npm package. Install it, then copy the file below.
npm i qodesign-free framer-motionapp/status/page.tsx
import { Suspense } from "react";
import StatusBoard from "./status-board";
// useSearchParams needs a Suspense boundary so the rest of the page can prerender.
export default function StatusPage() {
return (
<Suspense>
<StatusBoard />
</Suspense>
);
}app/status/status-board.tsx
"use client";
import { useRouter, useSearchParams } from "next/navigation";
import OrbitDashboard from "qodesign-free/orbit-dashboard";
export default function StatusBoard() {
const router = useRouter();
const view = useSearchParams().get("view") ?? "overview";
return (
<main className="min-h-dvh" data-view={view}>
<OrbitDashboard
autoplayDemo={false}
onNavigate={(label) => router.replace(`/status?view=${encodeURIComponent(label.toLowerCase())}`, { scroll: false })}
/>
</main>
);
}onNavigate gets the sidebar label (Overview, Services, Logs and so on), and the snippet copies it into the URL so the rest of your app can read it. Orbit has no prop for the starting view, so a reload opens Overview again. The numbers are Orbit's own demo data; install the source from the registry to wire in your metrics.

Comparing libraries for Codex
- qodesign vs Motion PrimitivesMotion Primitives is best for: small motion building blocks you compose yourself: text effects, number tickers, dialogs, toolbars.
- qodesign vs React BitsReact Bits is best for: text animations, animated backgrounds and creative effects.
All comparisons, with prices read on each library's own site.
Questions
Does this work in the CLI and the IDE extension?
Yes. In both you point Codex at a file in your repo, and PROMPT.md is just a file. The steps don't change.
Do I need a special AGENTS.md for qodesign?
No. PROMPT.md is plain text with file paths and props. One line in AGENTS.md about keeping the motion is enough, even if you add several pieces.
Is anything free?
Yes. Six pieces are free under the MIT licence and install with one shadcn command. The Day / Night toggle is also on the free code page.
Can I use them in a client project?
Yes. The licence covers personal, commercial and client projects. You can't resell the source code itself.
