Animated components for Aider

Drop a piece into your repo, hand Aider its PROMPT.md as a read-only file, and keep the timings safe with one line in your conventions file.

Aider is an open source AI pair programmer that runs in your terminal, on your own git repo. It's free under Apache 2.0 and you bring an API key for the model you want to use. You install it with pip (python -m pip install aider-install, then aider-install) or a one-line install script. Its docs say the way to give it your rules is a small markdown file such as CONVENTIONS.md, loaded read-only with /read or --read, or always loaded through .aider.conf.yml. How to add one with Aider

  1. 1Unzip the download into your repo, for example under components/qodesign.
  2. 2Start Aider with the prompt as a read-only file and the page you want to change: aider --read components/qodesign/PROMPT.md app/login/page.tsx. Then ask: "Follow PROMPT.md and add the piece to this page". Read the diff before you keep it.
  3. 3Run npm run dev and compare the motion with the live preview on our site before you keep the change.
  4. 4Add a line to CONVENTIONS.md, such as "Don't change animation durations or easing in components/qodesign", and put read: CONVENTIONS.md in .aider.conf.yml so Aider loads it every time.

Comparing libraries for Aider

  • qodesign vs SmoothUISmoothUI is best for: shadcn/ui projects that want lots of free motion, especially AI chat pieces, and don't mind wiring the screen together themselves.
  • qodesign vs Motion PrimitivesMotion Primitives is best for: small motion building blocks you compose yourself: text effects, number tickers, dialogs, toolbars.

Questions

How do I make Aider follow my rules?

Aider's docs suggest a small markdown file like CONVENTIONS.md with your rules, loaded with /read CONVENTIONS.md or aider --read CONVENTIONS.md so it stays read-only. To load it every session, add read: CONVENTIONS.md to .aider.conf.yml.

Do I need a paid plan?

No. Aider is open source under Apache 2.0, and you pay your model provider through your own API key. The pieces are separate: six are free, and paid pieces are a one-time purchase.

Is anything free?

Yes. Six pieces are free under the MIT licence and install with one shadcn command. The Day / Night toggle is also on the free code page.

Can I use them in a client project?

Yes. The licence covers personal, commercial and client projects. You can't resell the source code itself.
