shadcn/ui has its own free dashboard block, dashboard-01: a sidebar, an area chart and a data table. Orbit is a different free dashboard you add with the same CLI: a dark, live ops screen with KPI cards that count up, a service map, a latency chart and an events table. Here is what each one installs and how to wire it to your app.
"use client";
import { useRouter } from "next/navigation";
import { OrbitDashboard } from "@/components/orbit/OrbitDashboard";
export default function DashboardPage() {
const router = useRouter();
return (
<OrbitDashboard
autoplayDemo={false} // no hands-free tour on a real dashboard
onNavigate={(label) => router.push(`/dashboard/${label.toLowerCase()}`)}
/>
);
}
Good to know
Orbit doesn't change your shadcn components. Installed from the shadcn registry, its animations are prefixed orbit-, so Tailwind's animate-ping is left alone. The npm package (qodesign-free 0.1.2) still ships a global ping animation that replaces Tailwind's animate-ping.
Checked Oct 26 2026: the page above type-checks with TypeScript 5.9 and React 19.1 next to Orbit's registry files, passes next build on Next.js 15.5, and renders with 0 page errors and no sideways scroll in headless Chromium at 390 and 1440 px.
Orbit is dark only. Its styles are scoped under .orbit and use its own color variables, not your shadcn theme tokens, so it looks the same whichever theme the rest of your app is in.
The numbers are sample data. data.ts opens with "Mock data and helpers for Orbit. Replace these with your own API calls." The KPI labels, units and base values sit in KPIS in that file; Kpis.tsx moves them once a second while Live is on.
It renders after mount on purpose: the sample data uses the clock and random values, so the server sends an empty placeholder and the dashboard appears on the client. That keeps Next.js from logging a hydration mismatch.
No auth, no settings pages and no data fetching. It is the overview screen; your routes and your API stay yours.
shadcn's own dashboard: dashboard-01
The shadcn blocks page lists it as npx shadcn add dashboard-01. Its registry file describes it as "A dashboard with sidebar, charts and data table."
What it installs (read from the registry file on Oct 26 2026): app/dashboard/page.tsx and app/dashboard/data.json, plus components for the sidebar, site header, section cards, an interactive area chart and a data table. It pulls in the shadcn components sidebar, chart, card, table, tabs, drawer, sheet, sonner and more, and the packages @tanstack/react-table, @dnd-kit, @tabler/icons-react and zod.
Pick it when you want the standard shadcn look in your own theme tokens and a data table built on TanStack Table to grow from. It is a starting layout with static sample data in data.json.
If you searched for a whole admin panel with many pages, satnaing/shadcn-admin on GitHub is the popular free one: MIT, "Admin Dashboard UI built with Shadcn and Vite", 15,909 stars when we checked on Oct 26 2026.
It is a Vite app, not Next.js, so you clone it rather than add it to an existing project.
Orbit is for the screen people leave open: KPI cards that count up with sparklines, a service map with packets moving along its edges, a p50/p95/p99 latency chart with a crosshair, uptime strips, regions on a small globe, cluster capacity rings, a deploy feed and an events table you can filter, search, sort and page.
One command copies it into components/orbit: OrbitDashboard.tsx, the panels, data.ts and orbit.css. It's MIT, so the code is yours to change.
OrbitDashboard takes two props. autoplayDemo={false} turns off the hands-free tour it runs by default, and onNavigate gets the sidebar label when someone picks an item, so you can route it as in the file above.
Want a lighter dashboard with KPI cards on shadcn's own Card component? That's the shadcn KPI cards guide. Analytics Dashboard V1 is our paid dashboard, a dark screen where every number counts up.
Yes, the dashboard-01 block: npx shadcn add dashboard-01 adds a page with a sidebar, an area chart and a data table, with sample data in data.json.
Will Orbit change my shadcn components?
No. Installed from the shadcn registry, its animations are prefixed orbit-, so Tailwind's animate-ping is left alone. The npm package (qodesign-free 0.1.2) still ships a global ping animation that replaces animate-ping.
Does Orbit follow my shadcn theme?
No. It is dark only, with its own colors scoped under .orbit.
Does Orbit work in Next.js?
Yes, as a client component. Keep "use client" at the top of the file that renders it, as in the snippet above. App Router and Pages Router both work.
Is it really free?
Yes. MIT licence, no email needed for the registry install.
Can Cursor or v0 add it for me?
Yes. The folder has a PROMPT.md. Paste it into Cursor, Lovable, v0 or Claude Code.
